Adam & Elaine: Crissy Field

Over the weekend I had the pleasure of doing a maternity shoot for some of my favorite people, Adam (HAPPY BIRTHDAY to him today!) & Elaine. They were so sweet to allow me, an amateur, to take them on a wild ride around Crissy Field with me bossing them around. Let's just say there was a lot of laughing, especially due to the comedian with us (aka my assistant) Chris, who was nice enough to help me out for the afternoon (after a lot of begging on my end). I definitely learned a lot this day, especially what I don't know. Lots of work to do in the future!

extra storage!

Very excited to have some extra storage in our tiny San Francisco apartment via this new chevron bench found here. I've been struggling to find a place to organize my handbags for the past month...I wanted to place hooks behind our door, but ever which way it didn't seem to work. Now they are stored neatly in this bench and there is extra room to store picture albums and a few other keepsakes that needed a home. And, there is just enough room for it. It fits right between the dresser, and we are still able to open the door (very important factor). It was meant to be...

Now this little bench needs some pillows. I'd love to add this pillow to the mix, but right now budget is tight with the wedding coming up in no time. I'm lucky I even snuck this guy into the house...

Over the weekend I debated doing a few organizational projects around the house...but I couldn't stay inside. The weather was too perfect in SF. Here are a few pics from the past couple of weeks (if you follow me on instagram then these are a repeat):

we had a blast on NYE in Napa with dear friends

and had INCREDIBLE food in Napa at the Bounty Hunter. finger lickin'-couldn't get enough (this is the shredded beer can chicken sandwich) and amazing brunch at Fume Bistro.

made a batch of my favorite (not best for new years resolution diets-so unhealthy) dressing

i've decided i'm going to make an effort to read the magazines that i subscribe to this year.

got a new calendar from rifle paper co. and i love it

new stationery scored on joss & main. can't wait to put pen to paper.

over the weekend we went on a hike in tennesse valley and hung out on the beach all day hunting for rocks & building sandcastles.

meandered around one of my favorite cities-mill valley and saw a perfectly lined up row of wellies

and then spent yesterday making our way down to crissy fields.

and then ended the weekend with warm chocolate chip cookies (healthy eating to start asap, after the cookies are gone, naturally).

best weekend ever.

Organizing Makeup Brushes in 2012 + tips on Refinery29

The start of a New Year is a great time to organize your makeup brushes, here are a few ideas to get you started if you plan on tackling them:

Step 1:

Get rid of all brushes you are no longer using & wash the ones you are keeping and lay flat to dry:

Step 2 & 3:

Place brushes in an accessible spot. For me, that's on a dresser in jars filled with coffee beans (love how the coffee beans smell early in the a.m., surprisingly helps me to wake up- still after a few months of being in there they give off a strong scent). For others, a better spot may be an acrylic tray inside of a drawer all lined up, kept away in a brush bag, etc.

Take it one step further (3) by separating out brushes in multiple jars- a jar for blush/powder brushes, blending brushes, eyeliner brushes OR, if you really want to let your type A side take over...organize in order of use. Lining the jars up left to right, with the brushes you use first being in the first jar and so on. WOW, that would be intense.

Hope you all had a fabulous Holiday weekend! Since we are quickly approaching 2012, I thought I might put together a little recap of 2011 here on Deliciously Organized...

In January, we moved back from Boston to San Francisco into our new home and was part of The Nest:

and organized lipstick:

In February the floral bench got a makeover for the new apartment with a vintage fabric found in the remnant section of Britex.

and we made a trip to the beach...

the bedroom started to come together, but still needs a lot of work....

In March, I attended a bridal tour in wine country...

made cupcakes and added very easy to make round labels...

and then made a big batch of rainbow juice...

In April, I made gluten free, sugar free, & vegan mini banana muffins that were surprisingly delicious!

made an earth day green smoothie...

& some more green juice...

and lastly, a spring salad:

In May, I saved a stained cream blouse with dye:

AND, we booked the garden we are getting married in! very exciting for us!

In June, I had a wonderful trip to the farmers market...

One of my all time favorite bloggers, Seleta {I think it was one of the first blogs I ever read} was recently featured in Southern Living sharing "Holiday decorating Seaside Style" which included this shot of the above stockings. Also in the article was a few other beautiful Christmas images...

a lite christmas tree is just magical...right?

i'm also a huge fan of the slightly off peace, love & joy canvas i made this year using different colored sparkles & a glue pen {did i over do it with the glitter this year?}.

lastly, i'm going to let this slide because it's christmas...but the speaker right below/behind the gold star is an eye sore that i'm pretty sure does not bother my fiance {would this bother anyone else in their home? or just crazy people like myself?}

diy: glitter & sequin ornaments + gingerbread doughnuts!

We finally got our tree & then decorated it with a little glitter and sequins! Last year I made gold glitter polka dot ornaments, but this year I wanted more color so I used glass ornaments to make a range of pink glittered, pink polka dot and sequin ornaments.

Plain glittered ornaments: brush glue all over and cover in glitter, shake off excess

Sequins on the outside: brush glue and roll in sequins

Sequins on the inside: brush glue inside, pour sequins in, shake around until you like what you see

Glittered polka-dots: use a q-tip or glue pen to draw circles, cover in glitter, shake off excess (for multiple colors wait until you've covered every dot to shake)

also made mini gingerbread doughnuts with glaze...

Made a good amount of peanut butter blossoms...

and then dropped all the treats off at SF Firehouse 28.

LOVE this time of the year.

cheated this week with a little in-n-out (fries animal style!)

getting organized for the Holidays!

It's official, Thanksgiving is over and Christmas (my favorite time of the year!) is just around the corner! I plan to get organized for the Holidays this week. Making a list of gifts to buy, putting up the tree, decorating the house and starting the many crafts I have lined up for myself to make (hoping they happen as my Thanksgiving crafts never did!).

Here are 3 things I will be thinking about this week that I thought I would share:

1. Organizing gift wrap

Planning on assessing what I have and deciding what I need.

2. Decorating the tree

How to decorate the tree? Going the Martha Stewart route or the homemade ornaments, etc. Bright lights or white?

3. Who is on your list to shop for?

makeup brushes {organizing & investing}

If you've been reading for a while, you probably remember this post a while back on organizing makeup brushes. If you look closely at the faded out handles, most of the brushes are from MAC over 7 years ago...

& they've never been washed. Kidding! I wash them often with a gentle shampoo and let them air dry on a towel flat and they've never needed to be replaced until now. They are finally starting to fray and not apply as well. My point is, if you need a set of brushes I highly suggest MAC {runner up for me would be Stila, specifically this one and this one} and right now they have a fabulous set for $49.50:

My favorites are in this set: blush brush, blending brush, eyeliner/brow brush, shadow brush

love the lucite handles too-all these brushes on their own would be well over $49!

Lastly, although I'm really into using jars, vases & anything else different to store brushes, I'm really loving this:

blueberry bliss smoothie

This smoothie is a lot like the last with the exception of the berries...

1 cup of organic kale with stems removed {I like to cut it up with kitchen shears before I put it in the blender}
1/2 cup of organic almond milk
1 cup of frozen organic blueberries
1 organic banana
1 tablespoon of chia seeds {I purchased this brand because there was an IRC on the package for $1.00 off}
*handful of fresh blackberries {you don't need them, I had some on hand}

If you add 1/2 cup of cold water or ice, this will make it easier to drink. I don't mind it without, but it goes down much better with more liquid in the mix.

Mix all ingredients together in the blender & drink up while it's cold. Always best when it's cold!

stewed collard greens & white beans {made into soup}

Ending the day with more greens. This recipe was adapted from here, but I've made my own version & turned it more into a soup {I didn't have the time/ingredients listed but I liked the idea}.

1 can of cannellini beans {I would have used 2 cans next time-we felt it lacked beans}
1/4 cup of virgin olive oil
1/2 red onion chopped
2 green onions chopped
4 cloves of garlic
red pepper flakes
1 bunch of collard greens cut into 3 inch strips {next time I would have used less and cut much smaller strips}
8 cups of water
salt

Heat oil in large pan, saute onion, garlic and red pepper flakes. Add collard greens in batches, stir until wilted. Add beans and water, bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, until beans and greens are tender. Garnish with fresh pepper. Next time I would actually let the soup simmer, we were starving and only let it simmer for about 15 minutes...

I LOVED this soup, my fiance was not a fan. I bet it tastes a lot different with the parmesan rind it calls for in the recipe :) but this is meant for a low cal-gluten free-vegan meal.

Pretty sure I could eat this deliciousness all day...

During a cleanse or when I'm trying to stay away from the bad snacks, I love this very easy go-to treat. It will hold you over until you grab a salad at lunch, or you could eat it as a dessert in the evening.

2 organic brown rice cakes by Lundberg {this is my favorite brand}

1 organic banana

organic raw almond butter

cinnamon

Cover rice cakes in almond butter, add sliced banana and sprinkle with cinnamon.

I get so jazzed over everyone's positive feed back on health posts. Seriously. Huge smiles from reading your comments. Let's start off with a basic green smoothie for the people who are interested. It really doesn't look that appetizing here, but it's an easy green smoothie to make that tastes pretty good.

slowing down + greens

I've been busy lately, eating unhealthy and not finding time to exercise. It's time to find a way to slow down and take care of what's important. My health.

Anyone else feeling that way?

This week I'm going to try very hard to start my days off with a smoothie and get a good amount of greens in throughout the day. I forced myself to find 30 minutes to go to the grocery store today & stock up on the green stuff. Looking inside my fridge right now makes me happy.

Over the weekend I also allowed myself to just hang out in bed and watch tv for a little while...even though my monstrous to-do list was waiting for me to get up. It was pure bliss.

Bottom line- I'm going to try and make more time for health this week. Starting with smoothies in the mornings.

I will try to post recipes for those who are interested. Let me know if you are!

Office Organizing Idea: Pegboard

I know I've seen this before, but I thought I'd post it again here for inspiration. A pegboard is the perfect tool for organizing desk items {from small to large} and keeping frequently used items within arms reach. You can also spray paint it to match your office/desk area. Looks like a fab way to store ribbon for this Holiday season too!

butter lettuce
buttermilk ranch dressing {hidden valley is my pick}
bread {organic sprouted is my favorite}
best rotisserie chicken you can find {whole foods has delicious reasonably priced ones-best when day old}

Toast bread, slather with ranch, add lettuce and stack the chicken. Easy and delicious!

Yep, I'm already thinking about 2012 calendars. Crazy, I know. Anyway, I've always enjoyed Red Stamp's free printable calendars. Of course I've already printed this one out and laminated it for my desk. If you're just as jazzed about getting a calendar up...you can find this one and others here!

diy: delicious cinnamon & sugar lip scrub

I've used my cinnamon oil for a delicious lip scrub that I must share! Legitimately, you could lick it off your lips it's that good. Lip scrubs are a wonderful way to exfoliate the lips during winter months when they become dry and they only take a minute to make at home. This is the recipe I used:

2 tablespoons of cinnamon oil {see this post to make your own}

1/2 tablespoon of raw sugar

1 1/2 tablespoons of brown sugar

a drop of vanilla

Mix all ingredients together and store in any small container. I love the ones I purchased in store from here.

To apply: Use finger to scrub mixture on lips in a circular motion and rinse {leaving on lips overnight works wonders too}.

Also, this is a really easy & inexpensive gift to make for the Holidays!

I wanted to use cinnamon oil for a project I'm whipping up...but didn't want to pay the price tag (can be pricey). Decided to make my own by doing the instructions above. It's been just about 2 weeks and I'm really excited to start using it. Smells divine! I'll post the project soon. Happy Friday!

I apologize for the lack of interesting posts around here...I realize I haven't posted any organiziation tips, diy projects, etc. in a while. Hoping to get a few up soon, life has been busy these days. In the meanwhile, I have a few photographs of what I've been up to lately which really doesn't prove that I've been that busy.

1. if you haven't noticed, i'm obsessed with the roses from my patio. well, i'm obsessed with flowers. period.

2. nordstrom rack is now carrying kate spade clothing. exciting stuff.

3. having brunch at one of our favorite spots this past weekend.

4. little vine is a new shop in my hood, it has delicious local eats & they sell herbs/spices in cute painted mason jars

5 & 6. date night making homemade pizzas, which was actually really fun. happy they were

edible...sometimes homemade pizzas can go wrong :(

7. another shot of tahoe

8. pita chip crusted chicken & spicy sweet potato fries-wanted to spice up our chicken so i crushed up pita chips and sprinkled on top of chicken, added red pepper and drizzled with olive oil- bake for 30 minutes

9. going to attempt to make pumpkin soup...i'll let you know how it goes

10. stephen durfee was doing a demo at wililams sonoma this weekned-this is a chocolate carmel tart that we tasted (along with several other tasty treats). didn't realize the demos were free, kinda nice if you have a few free hours on a saturday

11. taking up tennis, i'm HORRIBLE, if you have any tips please let me know.

12. it was so nice to wear a dress when we had that warm SF weather-it's back to normal now...

Anyway, this post makes me truly miss all the seasons on the East Coast. Especially the Fall in Boston when the air is crisp and the leaves are changing. Very jealous of ya'll who live where there are seasons {even in the winter...I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that actually enjoys the snowy cold days}!

I've always loved a pop of purple in the fall. Here are two oldies that I've used and one newbie... MAC: up the amp- a bright shade of lilac that can be toned down with a little clear gloss. OPI: pamplona purple is like having skittles for nails-such a fun dose of color. Lastly, bare escentuals: moonshine is a new product that I adore- a very subtle purple eye-shadow that is easy to apply on the go!

Organizing Tips for the Holidays

As the Holidays quickly approach us, tips on keeping wrapping paper, ribbon and coupons organized always catch my eye. Real Simple {I wrote directly onto the images I scanned} had a few creative ideas that I loved. First of all, the tension rod for wrapping paper is genius. I have the perfect place in my cabinet to set this up. Second, the paper towel holder for ribbon. I can pick up a paper towel holder at a thrift store for nothing and finally keep my ribbon easily accessible, and not such a disaster!

Lastly, coupons on a spindle...

This might be something you could keep by the front door near the Holidays. Companies tend to overload my mailbox, inbox, etc. with coupons and it would be nice to have a spot for easy access before I start my shopping! Speaking of the Holidays, I can't believe it's already the middle of September!

I had family and friends stay with me this past weekend and I have to share this product that my sister used on my wild hair. For starters, my hair is frizzy (without product), wavy/curly and I have a lot of it. I've been using moroccanoil to tame it for a few years but I think I might like this stuff better. It's much lighter and you only need two sprays...flip your head over and spray once on the bottom layer of your hair and spray once on the top layer {on the bottom of your hair-not roots}. Run your fingers through your hair a few times and you're done. I was able to blow dry my hair without any other products or a round brush....which is huge for my hair. I received the new j.crew catalog last night and fell in love with the cover.

I've danced since I was young, but never stuck with ballet. I found myself loving jazz and hip hop more, but a piece of me still wishes I would have had more of an interest at a young age. Anyway, I always find myself drawn to ballerina shoots in magazines, etc. This being one of them. All dancers from this shoot are from the Yakobson dance studio in Saint Petersburg, Russia, featuring local ballerinas.

I love seeing the behind the scene shots...

How charming is that blue velvet chair? It's official, our home is definitely in need of a good dose of velvet! And I'm loving the magazine file folders turned the opposite direction and the fact that their left unpainted, creates a more rustic/organic look.

Anyway, life has been busy lately {wedding planning, work...} which is causing me to crave a long morning of flipping through mags {glossies & online} and all your lovely blogs for a good dose of design! Maybe with an extra delicious latte served in that beautiful gold mug too...

the skinny leopard belt...

About a month ago I started my search for an inexpensive skinny leopard belt for the fall. I've always been a leopard gal (flats, clutches, blouses, etc.-I guess you either love it or hate it, and I love it) and wanted another accessory to spice up a pair of jeans. During my initial search I found 1 or 2, but recently I found a boatload. Apparently they just came into style, or the Fall items have finally hit the stores (probably a little of both). I already purchased this one but I think there are cheaper options that I might need to switch it out for! The one I purchased met my requirements though: gold buckle and multiple holes to wear on waist and in actual belt loops (buy up a size to do this). Anyway, click on all belts to make your way to their website...

an afternoon at the beach...

My sister & her friend came to visit from Southern California last weekend and we managed to squeeze in a lot of sightseeing. One of the many things we did was hit up Stinson Beach. Nor cal beaches are not like so cal beaches. Sun is unusual, fog is typical. You don't really throw on your suit and pack a cooler if you know what I mean...

What you can do is curl up in blankets, drink hot chocolate and soak in the crisp air...

lavender & lemon cookies

My sister, her friend & I made these cookies this weekend:

let's get a close up...

We LOVED them, my fiance did not. If you don't like the scent of lavender, then you will not like these cookies. They definitely taste like lavender. This recipe is from Giada {love her} and is easy and quick {I promise}. What wasn't easy and quick? Locating almond flour. I'm now certain only a few health food stores carry it. I finally found it in bulk {which was great because you only need 1/2 cup} at Rainbow Grocery.

Anyway, if you like lavender & lemon...this is a delicious recipe!

3/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup almond flour

2 tablespoons arrowroot

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon dried lavender

1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 stick unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces, chilled

1 large lemon, zested

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

Place an oven rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a food processor, pulse together the flours, arrowroot, sugar, lavender, salt and baking soda.

Add the butter and lemon zest. Pulse until the mixture forms a coarse meal. Add the honey and lemon juice. Pulse until the mixture forms a soft dough. Form the dough into 1-inch round balls and press into discs, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 1/4-inch thick. Arrange in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake until light brown around the edges, 9 to 11 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and cool completely, about 15 minutes.

My sister & I hit up the Ferry Building Farmers Market early this morning and picked up fresh heirloom tomatoes, bacon, basil, coffee and made a delicious breakfast as a group (her friend is also staying with us). We added lemon zest, vanilla, and cinnamon to our waffle mix for a little kick.

My little sister has arrived in San Francisco and I'm looking forward to spending some time with her. Not only is it her Birthday, but she's really never explored San Francisco. For her birthday...I made the easiest, quickest, tastiest red velvet cupcakes ever and they were boxed {I typically do scratch, but there was no shot I had time for that this week}! I have been posting my favorite candles for a while here on do so I thought it was only appropriate that I post the newest one I picked up this weekend. Voluspa Saijo Persimmon. This is a coconut blend layered with juicy peach and red currant. If you're in the market (I never am I just can't stay away from candles, it's an illness) I highly recommend this one! I had it burning my bedroom yesterday and I could smell it through out the entire house.

I went wine tasting all day Saturday with friends and ended up at EDK for dinner. Everything on the menu was delicious, but if I had to pick just one...I'd go with the jalapeno peach martini!

and the s'mores tart...ok, I pick two.

my fiance made french press coffee with our new fav whole beans by bicycle coffee, a local company based out of the Mission that delivers organic coffee by bicycle all around the city...

there is a new stationery store in the SF Center and it's dangerous. Maido is the name, and they give you credit for every purchase on a punch card. Definitely worth a visit...

organizing: linen closet + diy round labels

homemade bath scrubs and dried lavender for scent & to use in scrubs/salts

Finally got our tiny linen closet organized! Well, technically we don't keep linens in our linen closet...but this is considered a linen closet in our apartment and is our only closet other than a small one in our bedroom. Anyway, I started by tossing any expired products and got rid of anything we haven't used in the past 6 months. After that, I organized the top two shelves {lower shelves are organized with several more items but didn't photograph as well} with items that we use most often. Baskets I've had for years {along with a few new ones} were used to hold all of our loose items. To make them a bit more rustic I removed the liners, which I'm super into. I could also add paper to the back of the shelves, but I'm not sure I want to take on that project right now. Easy labels were created and tied to the baskets {don't look too close, they aren't perfect} by using the following items & not shown items...a hole punch and index cards.

1. Ribbon 2. Favorite Scissors 3. Circle Stencil 4. Glue 5. Gold pen 6. Paint Samples

To make labels: Trace an index card with the circle stencil and cut out. Then trace a larger circle stencil on the back side of a paint sample and cut it out. Glue smaller white circle onto larger paint sample and then punch with hole punch. Add ribbon and use gold pen to label your items.

diy body scrub {a base for salt scrub or sugar scrub + questions answered}

I'm going to go ahead and start this post off by telling you all that my fiance has been begging for the title of this post to be named after the TLC song "no scrubs", repeatedly singing, "noooooo scrubs", "noooooooo scrubs" for the past 10 minutes. I have politely denied his request. With that image fresh in your mind, I want to do a quick post on diy scrubs...so, "yeeeeeeees scrubs", "yeeeeeees scrubs".

Tonight I quickly made another batch of lavender scrub as seen above, but also added fresh lavender to the mix. I recommend using the scrub within a few weeks if you decide to do this.

First of all, I didn't really give measurements in my last post and I wanted to clear that up. Both of these bases {below} can be used to make any scent of scrub you'd like by switching out the essential oil. For example, you could use sweet orange, lavender, rose, peppermint, almond oil, etc. or whatever your favorite scent is with this base. The measurements for the base are:

SALT SCRUB:

1/2 cup of organic sea salt
1/3 cup of organic raw sugar or 1/3 cup of organic cane sugar {tip: cane sugar is softer than the raw}

1 cup of room temperature coconut oil {best when it has a liquid consistency}

30 drops of essential oil

SUGAR SCRUB:

1/2 cup of organic raw sugar or 1/2 cup of organic cane sugar {tip: cane sugar is softer than the raw}
1/3 cup of organic sea salt

1 cup of coconut oil {best when it has a liquid consistency}

30 drops of essential oil

Add ingredients in order listed above, topping it off with coconut oil {add more coconut oil if you like it less dry}. Then, add essential oil and stir with a butter knife. Tip-the coconut oil may go back to a more solid form, add 1/4 cup of almond oil to create a liquid consistency again or more coconut oil.

Lastly, people have asked if it's cost effective? I personally feel it is because I always have sea salt, coconut oil and sugar in my home...but that may not be true for others. I use these ingredients to bake often, so they also have multiple uses. As far as essential oils go, I prefer using the cheaper brands (Aura Cacia is sold at Whole Foods and is under $6 for most scents-the sweet orange was $5.49} and buying a new scent ever so often. Once I own a new essential oil, I mix it with water as a mist for pillows or skin, use it in the bath, etc. As far as the jar goes, I use an old recycled jar so that is at no cost to me.

The best part of making your own bath products is knowing what is really in them and I love knowing all the ingredients are organic {at the same time this is 100% hypocritical...as I slather on non organic products after I shower regularly!}. Anyway, hope this helps a bit!

diy: summer scrub

Above is a fresh batch of scrub that I mixed together in less than a few minutes today! It is too easy not to share and it only takes four ingredients. I wanted an energizing scrub that I could use in the morning, rather than the lavender scrub that I like to use in the evening. The scent of orange is always energizing and mixed with the coconut oil it makes for a delicious scent and leaves the skin with a healthy glow. This mixture is also nice after multiple days in the sun when the skin needs a little exfoliation. Add ingredients in order on label below with the largest portion being sea salt, then top it off with coconut oil. Last, add about 30 orange drops and stir with a butter knife.

easy flower arranging trick {aka floral frog}!

I'm constantly add crafting ideas, diy projects, etc. to my pinterest boards (or liking them) and most recently I re-pinned this photograph for a to-do when arranging flowers. I finally took the opportunity to try this out & used a bunch of cheap dahlia's from traders and arranged them in a larger bowl. I didn't do a fancy arrangement, just stuck to the dahlia's, but this was quick and easy. I imagine if you were doing a more intricate arrangement this would be very helpful (especially if you had a large beautiful bowl to arrange in). Also, a lot of times flowers like dahlia's (& zinnias) sink down into the water and tend to not last very long, with this idea the flowers have something to rest on and stay standing. I highly recommend this method (I used regular masking tape instead of the cellophane tape). Originally found here.

can't get enough of the new stationery I picked up a few weeks ago!

Black & White Stripes (on the back) + Gold + Kelly Green is one of my favorite color combinations (could even be our wedding colors + or - the kelly green.). Having the cards personalized is nice too...

Writing letters to friends, thank you cards, or sending out a Holiday card has always brought a smile to my face. There's something about putting pen to paper that I'll always love.

What are your thoughts on writing letters?

Organization & Life Inspiration: Jess Constable

I'm sure you've all seen this lovely shoot from Rue Magazine Issue 3, but I wanted to post a favorite shot from Jess Constable's studio and a wonderful tip on conquering anxiety, which is her very own worry cards with downloadable sheets (beyond clever!).

First of all, I love this shot from her studio. Very organized with a touch of glam.

Lastly, the worry cards which I think are fabulous. A lot of times having a to-do list for me is putting a worry down on paper and knowing that I can forget about it for a minute, but this system allows you to focus on one worry at a time and control what you can control at that moment and forget about the rest (and of course you don't have a daunting list staring back at you!). The instructions for the worry cards are below on the printable sheet. You can download them here.

1. Print out this sheet (legal size paper!) and cut out the four rectangles along the solid outer line. Fold each rectangle in half along the centerline and tape the open edge closed to create an individual flashcard. Repeat until you have as many cards as you need.

2. Write down all the worries you have on the cards. Under your description write where the worry is coming from in your life: relationships, personal development, career, ﬁnances, or another category of your choice. Separate your worries by category.

3. Circle whether you are able to change, unable to change, or already have changed the worry. On the back of each worry card that you are able to change, write down the ﬁrst step you can take to resolve this concern. On the cards that have the worries you are unable to change, write down your wish for that situation. And for those worries you have already changed (congrats!), write down why that worry is no longer valid.

4. Next, separate the worry cards that you are able to change and use the actions written on the backs of
these cards to form your action list for the rest of the day, week, etc. Order them so you only have to focus on one action at a time and then work to resolve the issues within your control.

5. Once you've resolved your worries, put the cards in a safe place to remind yourself of your successes.

The city was beautiful yesterday and we decided to have an impromptu bbq and invite over a good friend who lives just a few blocks away. I really wanted dessert and wanted to use a few organic peaches we had but didn't want to spend a lot of time baking so I tried to come up with something creative...

This recipe takes under 10 minutes to prep and uses only one bowl. This is a combination of ingredients used in the apple crisp post and originally from reader Allison's recipe.

This is not a measured recipe...but if you're interested:

*peaches
*sugar
*flour
*cinnamon
*oatmeal
*brown sugar
*butter
*baking powder
*baking soda

In a bowl, combine peaches, a little flour, sugar and cinnamon and set equal parts into ramekins (I used 3 ramekins with 2 peaches). Then in the same emptied bowl, combine oatmeal, brown sugar, flour, butter, baking powder and baking soda. Sprinkle mixture on top of peaches and bake for around 20 minutes at 375 degrees. Serve warm with ice cream.

Don't laugh, but I got it in the Juniors section of Macy's (much better prices) and it's now on sale for $29.99. You can get it here. Few asked about the black romper too, it is from Old Navy and is not online. The SF store had plenty a few weeks ago. If you don't plan to wear a cami with it, the fashion tape is a life saver...

trip to lanai!

Thought I would throw up a little recap from our trip to Lanai. So bummed we had to leave this place!

We spent a lot of time LOUNGING big time at the pool.

and we headed up to The Challenge for drinks one afternoon. The view is breathtaking from this place!

we also had an awesome birthday dinner made by our friends (local fresh caught sea bass and a homemade cake) oh and these fabulous hats!

and did a little hike to Sweetheart rock:

and lastly, lots of beach time...including a BBQ, lounging and...

swimming with spinners (wild dolphins that come to the bay to rest-having wild dolphins swim under you, around you is one of the coolest things I've done in a very long time. BUT, very scary at first to warm up to swimming with them...)

by the way...that hat was the best $12.95 I've spent in a long time.

missing this place a lot today in this rainy SF weather...

such an incredible trip!

berry shortcake.

Berry shortcake is by far one of my favorite desserts and last night I used fresh shortcake from whole foods to throw together a few cakes. I added whip cream from scratch (my recipe: heavy whipping cream, add vanilla and raw sugar) and then topped off the cream with organic strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Mine is above with a few berries and below...well, below is the leaning tower of shortcake...

I made this ridiculous tower to kick off my fiances birthday right...which is today! Happy Birthday!

I'm back from Lanai BUT wish I could have stayed there forever! Unfortunately, today I had to make my way back to San Francisco. Today is my birthday and that mixed with these peonies are helping make the transition back to reality a bit easier. I've been thinking about doing a 30 before 30 list this week...but I'm not sure how that will go. Anyway, I have a lot of photographs from my trip and will post some soon. Finally taking off to Lanai today for a little vacation and I couldn't be more excited! I've been meaning to take a shot of the Boston poster that friends Stephanie & Linds gave me before moving away from Boston (Thank you!!!) and finally snapped a quick pic before we take off. I framed it in white because there is a little speaker to the right that is black and a dark frame draws more attention to the speaker. Every time I look at it I think of them and how much I miss them & Boston (daily!). I'm entertaining the idea of adding color to our old neighborhood, Back Bay with a colored pencil. The Farmers Market at the Ferry Building is always a favorite of mine. Waking up with a Blue Bottle coffee, grabbing fresh flowers, sampling delicious cheeses and all while overlooking views of the bay.

Organizing Shoes: Using picture rails

A while back I posted my Top 3 Favorite Shoe Storage Ideas. One of the ideas is to hang shoes from chair molding, wire racks, etc. I love the idea of using picture rails too as found in Martha Stewart this month. Nothing better than rows of perfectly organized shoes on display. Also, I like everything else that they used to style this shoot. How awesome is that luggage? Shoes? Sweater and skirt? How about that delicious chair?

I've been looking for a purse organizer for a while and haven't found one anywhere that I liked . Today I snagged this one up on Joss & Main... & I'm hoping it will work:

these houndstooth cosmetic cases...I've always been a fan of the design, one of my favorite coats is houndstooth :

I found this tote on Toss Designs actual website...isn't it cute?

and I'm going to grab this jewelry organizer for traveling...another item I've been searching for. I typically roll up my necklaces in washcloths to prevent them from tangling. Don't laugh...I find it the best way to travel with them!

Organizing Tools: Striped Boxes

Striped Boxes for storage are one of my all time favorites {a few years ago I went as far as make my own}. The striped boxes in this closet are used to store belts and gloves and are clearly labeled on the front of each box. Great use of a CD box to keep little accessories organized. You could also store small clutches and scarves in CD boxes. Find the ones in this article from HERE.

My sister sent over this water for elephants inspired wedding & engagement session (thanks Tiffany!) and I thought I'd share a few of my favorites. I personally haven't seen the film, nor have I finished the book (think I started it over a year ago) but I can't get enough of these rustic images inspired by the film. With these cold rainy days here in SF, I think a cute hat and a pop of red on the lip would make this weather a bit more bearable...

diy: save a stained blouse

Back in March I had a wonderful trip up to Napa. Although, after an aggressive game of Cranium...my new lace blouse was destroyed by red wine (yes, we bring cranium everywhere...even wine tasting). The dry cleaner couldn't get the wine out and I refused to never wear the blouse again. My only thought to save it was to...dye it? I worried the fabric was too delicate, so instead of the washing machine, I used an old vase and stirred it in the kitchen sink for a little while. And, I actually LOVE the way it turned out. I did a bright fuschia and I think it's perfect for summer. I'm so fired up about it I'm thinking of dying a cami to match with the leftover dye? Have you ever saved an article of clothing with dye? How did it turn out?

I still like to put pen to paper and send out note cards ever so often & I think these stamps are the perfect touch for a spring note. Very creative, fun and fresh. I love how all the stamps are shaped like hearts. Aren't they beautiful?
